- Video7, Compaq, NCR, Genoa and VESA.
-
-
- REQUIREMENTS
-
- HCMAKE currently requires the following:
-
- - A 386 or 486 based PC
- - About 2Mb of RAM
- - DOS 3.0-6.0 (others untested)
-
- (A HiColor display is not required to produce the animation
- with HCMAKE, but is required to display the animation with
- HCPLAY.)
-
-
- INSTALLATION
-
- Simply copy the HCMAKE program and the DOS4GW.EXE (dos
- extender) to any directory that you want - perhaps somewhere
- in the DOS path.
-
-
- USAGE
-
- Syntax for HCMAKE is as follows:
-
- HCMAKE [?] infilespec[.TGA] [outfilename[.FLI]] /speed=n /pp
-
- The options are as follows:
-
-
- /speed=n This switch is used to specify the speed at
- which the animation is to be played. This
- value may be over-ridden when the animation is
- played with HCPLAY. The default speed value is
- 0 (play as fast as possible).
-
- /pp Pingpong. Make an animation with the first
- half consisting of the frames displayed in
- ascending order, and the second half consisting
- of the same frames in descending order.
-
- /dither Dither 24bit Targas to 16bit (HiColor) when
- making the animation. This will reduce
- "banding" that may appear on the HiColor screen
- when smooth gradients of a single color are
- present. Beware that the effect of dithering
- varies greatly for different animations. Some
- animations may become bigger and slower, and
- look worse when dithering is used, and other
- animations may be smaller, faster and look
- better! Try producing your animation with and
- without dithering and judge the factors
- yourself.
-
- For example, try:
-
- C> HCMAKE ? to see the help/brag screen
-
- C> HCMAKE anim* to make an animation from the
- files "anim*.tga". The animtion
- file will be named HCMAKE.FLI.
-
-
- C> HCMAKE demo* demo.fli /pp /speed=10
-
- make an animation named
- "demo.fli" from the Targa images
- "demo*.tga" using pingpong
- sequencing and a speed of 10.
-
- C> HCMAKE tga24*.tga ditherd.fli /dither
-
- make an animation named
- "dithered.fli" from the Targa
- images "tga24*.tga", dithering
- the 24bit images to 16bit.
-
- RESTRICTIONS AND CAVEATS
-
- Currently, HCMAKE is restricted to producing animations at
- 640x480 resolution.
-
- The shareware versions of HCMAKE and HCPLAY are currently
- restricted to animations of 25 or fewer frames.
-
-
- THE FUTURE
-
- We intend to make the following improvements to HCMAKE/HCPLAY.
- We need your support to continue development!
-
- - Support for additional hardware - S3 chips, ATI XL (need
- info!, especially for the S3), and VESA HiColor support.
-
- - Support for additional HiColor modes such as 800x600 etc.
-
- - Combining other animtions into one HiColor animation, text
- additions to animations etc.
-
- - Support for new 24bit modes - Full color animations. (?)
-
- - Addition of sound board support. (?)
-
- - Better support for ordinary 256 color SuperVGA FLI
- animations.
